Tarija, wine country Bolivia Oct 2023

Tarija is on the eastern slopes of Bolivia and is its wine growing center.  We crossed the Tupiza badlands with its wonderful rock sculptures and canyons shaped by Mother Nature to reach Tarija and found a wine tour for the next day.  We parked on the main plaza with these semi-permanent ribbons and designs flying above us.

An old fashioned broom made from twigs/sticks, used by the street cleaners here.
These women set up their sales tents outside the church every day.
They sell a blue wine here, like a rose but a different color.  Unusual....
My new favorite wine--chocolate!  Awesome flavor.  Wish I'd bought more.
Karen at the first vineyard we visited on our winery tour.
Another member of our tour group as seen through a glass of red wine.
Jason studying the wine menu.
The vats  in the winery are getting high-tech here.
A huge copper coil and pot in the winery building.
We visited a distillery where they distill the grapes into a spirit called 'singali'.  It's a harsh drink unless mixed into a cocktail.  We had ours mixed with ginger ale and a slice of lemon.  Refreshing that way.
Various liquers and cheese were available at one of the stops on our tour.  Our group devoured them like wolves.
Some of the rustic features of an old winery.
Jason resting before a wander around the old winery.
The display in one of the rooms in the old winery had lots of varieties avaialble.
More old grape processing equipment no longer used.
Vines make a great design of a bunch of grapes here.
Wooden furniture from old vines.
A rose garden at the winery with pretty blooms that smelled as good as they looked.
Not sure what this wood-fired tub was used for in the winery.  It was filled with ash, so it may be used for cooking.
A giant flamingo of cement next to the little footbridge was on the edge of the vineyard.
A old cart that was set to be pulled by an animal or a tractor.
Back at the plaza, this man was dressed in traditional garb for some event.
More wonderful rock formations as we left Tarija.
