OK, so we've been really busy traveling, usually without wifi and often without even cell phone service. So I'm going to have to cull out lots of photos to publish.
This was me on a hike with my brother Tom in Colorado.
Still some ice and snow on the water of the creek, but the sun warmed the trail for us.A nice view reflected from one of our campsites in SE Colorado.A nice rock arch in Picture Canyon, CO.
Weird nodules were in the sandstone rocks in this canyon. I thought this one broken open looked like rock eggs or eyeballs.
The rock arch from a different angle. Love that blue sky in Colorado!
Jason snoozing on the floor in the van after a long hike.
Some of the cool petroglyphs in the Picture Canyon.
Looks like an elk or reindeer to me. Petroglyphs are carved into the rocks, whereas petrographs are drawn onto the rock with colored pigments. It was nice to see these but we were saddened by how many of them were vandalized.
We just caught Dad and Linda the day before they left again for Hawaii. We stopped in on our way into town so we could say hello.
Sean, Tori, Linda and Tori's daughters. Our quick visit overlapped with Tori's so we got to say hi to them, too.
We spent the rest of the holidays based at Mom's house, always a pleasure that comes with weight gain and lots of Scrabble playing. Jason, Mom and Jim in Mom's kitchen.
Addie playing with the wrapping paper at Tom's house.Mom, Megan and Tom at his table. Megan, Randy and Addie stopped in for a quick visit on their way home from NM. Tom and I played lots of cribbage and Scrabble here.
The two tall boys, Jason and Jim, at Tom's.
Mom making rhubarb pie for us....Yum!
Mom playing dominoes with Scotty and Abby on her back porch. They were lining them up to knock down.
We spent Christmas Eve and Christmas day at Jim and Holly's. Holly and Mom on Christmas Eve before any of the mayhem.
A nice shot of the Christmas scene in Jim and Holly's family room. The adults here are playing, but where'd those kids go?
Jim and Mom starting breakfast on Christmas morning in their new kitchen. Homemade cinnamon rolls were a treat,as were the rest of the meals. Jim has that Traeger smoker cooking down to a fine art!Jason trying to figure out his present, a FixD diagnostic plug-in tool for the van.
Jim opening one of his boxes from Amazon while the rest are already playing with their new stuff.
Scotty and Abby checking out their new snow globes from Mimi.
Scotty with a new car while a pile of presents still waits to be opened.Jim in his Batman apron, making his fabulous brown sugar and honey baked bacon. It's always awesome.
Tom, Karen, Jim and Mom on Christmas Day, 2021 at Jim's.A winter sunrise in Aurora.
YOLO covered in snow. This is why we are heading south next.Jason, Mom and me in her kitchen as we said goodbye.
Karen and Tom at his house just before we left to get on the road again. He was gracious enough to let us offload a whole bunch of stuff we figured we could live without in the van. We heaped the boxes in his basement and hit the road.
It was wonderful getting to spend the holidays with my family. Now we're heading south to get warm and do some rockhounding in New Mexico.
